How to Identify on Air
⚠ FCC Requirement — Remote Operators Must Use the Station Callsign
Per FCC 47 CFR §97.119, every amateur station must transmit its assigned callsign at the end of each contact and at least every 10 minutes during a contact. When operating remotely, the station callsign — not your home callsign — is the legally required identification, since it identifies the transmitting station.

Correct ID Format on Phone (Voice)
📡 DX1PRD Station (Philippines)
✅ End of Contact
"This is DX1PRD, remote operator K6DAN"
✅ Opening a CQ
"CQ CQ CQ, this is DX1PRD, Delta X-ray One Papa Romeo Delta,
remote operator K6DAN in Claremont, California"
📡 KE6YEP Station (California)
✅ End of Contact
"This is K6UD, remote operator DV1K"
✅ Opening a CQ
"CQ CQ CQ, this is K6UD, Kilo Six Uniform Delta,
remote operator DV1K in the Philippines"
✅ Every 10 Minutes — Both Stations
"Station ID: DX1PRD, remote op K6DAN"
"Station ID: K6UD, remote op DV1K"
❌ Incorrect — Do NOT do this on either station
"This is DV1K"
Using only your home callsign does not legally identify the transmitting station. Always give the station callsign (DX1PRD or K6UD) first.

Why mention you are a remote operator? While not strictly required by the FCC, it is good amateur practice and courtesy to mention you are operating remotely. It helps the other station understand why your callsign district (6) may not match your location, avoids confusion, and promotes transparency in the amateur community. PAREDN encourages all remote operators to identify as shown above.
🏆 Contest Operation Exception
During contest operations where club members are participating as a club entry, there is no requirement to announce the remote operator callsign. The FCC has no specific rule mandating individual operator identification during contest exchanges. Simply use the station callsign alone:
📡 DX1PRD Station:
"59 DX1PRD"
"This is DX1PRD"
📡 KE6YEP Station:
"59 K6UD"
"This is K6UD"
You must still transmit the station callsign at least every 10 minutes and at the end of each contact as required by FCC §97.119. The contest exchange callsign counts as your legal station ID. Adding your personal callsign during contests is optional but always welcome.
